Marching Percussion Coordinator
After growing up in Fredericksburg, Texas, and finding her interest in percussion, Kari ventured out to Lubbock to pursue a performance degree at Texas Tech and then a master's degree at the University of Colorado. During this time she spent her summers in a marching drum corps with the Sky Ryders and Santa Clara Vanguard. After aging out, she returned to drum corps as an instructor with the Glassmen and Blue Knights. In 1998, she took a job in public education as a percussion specialist for the Judson Independent School District outside of San Antonio.
Kari is grateful to have been able to have so many wonderful experiences in the world of percussion. She has played with an all female percussion ensemble named "Chix with Stix" in Atlanta, Ga. and worked with the "Million Dollar Band" at the University of Alabama. Since returning to Texas, she has worked as a private instructor in the Austin school district, is on staff at Texas State University and performs with Austin, San Antonio and Mid-Texas Symphonies.
Drew Saenz lives in San Marcos, Texas, while he is pursuing his master’s degree in Music Education at Texas State University. He works as a percussion specialist for the Eanes Independent School District and is also a graduate assistant for the university bands. After marching snare with the Crossmen from 2008-2009, he finished his drum corps career with the Boston Crusaders in 2010. He has also performed with Texas State University PASIC and WGI ensembles in both the battery and front ensemble. Drew received his bachelor's degree in Music Education from Texas State University-San Marcos.
Since 2007, Drew has taught, consulted and arranged for Austin-area schools, including West Ridge Middle School, Connally High School, Pflugerville High School, Westlake High School and Texas State University. He spent the 2013 DCI season with the Crossmen as a snare tech and is looking forward to his second year on staff. Most recently, Drew was appointed Battery Coordinator of Teatro Indoor Percussion for their inaugural season where they will be competing at WGI Championships in Dayton, Ohio.
