The HTML Artwork Image Maps

Clickable images allow readers to click on points within an image. These clickable "hot spots" work because the server has a map of their coordinates with instructions on actions to be taken when certain coordinates are chosen. The images in this document must be set up with your server before the clickable part will work.

Kayak Menubar: ISMAP

With the ISMAP attribute, clickable images are processed through a CGI application that reads a map file which connects coordinates with specific locations.

Kayak Menubar: USEMAP

Unlike ISMAP, support for USEMAP is built into the browser. The map information may be placed in the document itself through the MAP and AREA tags, or may be placed in another document. USEMAP is a tag introduced by Netscape, and is included in the HTML 3.2 specification. Although other browsers may add support for it in the future, at the time this document was written, USEMAP was only supported by Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. It can be used in conjunction with ISMAP to allow readers with browsers that only support ISMAP to still access the image map. If both USEMAP and ISMAP are used, USEMAP takes precedence.

Unlike the ISMAP example above, this imagemap should work if you are viewing this document with a browser that supports USEMAP. kayaking gear Sea kayaking Paddle info General kayaking resources
