Health Care Programs (CCI Partnership)

In partnership with Condensed Curriculum International, Inc. (CCI), Continuing Education is offering three programs for those interested in a career in the health professions: Home Health Care Aide, Medical Assistant Administration and Pharmacy Technician Certification (see course information below).  Despite a  sluggish economy, the demand for healthcare professionals has grown significantly and created new job opportunities.  Available to both working adults interested in a new career and current health care professionals, these programs will help students prepare for the numerous jobs available to health care staff and professionals.  Financial assistance is available for those who qualify.

Pharmacy Technician Certification
This comprehensive 50-hour course will prepare participants to enter the pharmacy field and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board's (PTCB) exam.  Technicians work in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies and other health care settings, while working under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.  Course content includes medical terminology specific to the pharmacy; reading and interpreting prescriptions; and defining drugs by generic and brand names.  Participants will learn dosage calculations, IV flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control, and billing and reimbursement.  This program includes a graded final exam to help prepare participants for the PTCB exam.

Home Healthcare Aide Program

This 80-hour comprehensive program prepares participants for a position as a home health care aide.  Emphasis is placed on giving personal care in a client's home; developing strong communication skills; working with ill persons; meeting basic human needs; and learning about eldercare, nutrition, special diets and home management.  In addition, this program will prepare students to sit for the National Association for Home Care and Hospice (NAHC) home care aide certification examination through the NAHC's Homecare University Program.  This NAHC program is composed of three competency-based elements: training, skills demonstration and a written examination.  Those that register for this course should possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Medical Assistant Administration Program This 50-hour course prepares participants to function effectively in many of the administrative and clerical positions in the health care industry.  Administrative medical assistants, medical secretaries, medical records clerks and health unit coordinators are all positions in great demand.  This program covers important background information on medical terminology, insurance billing and coding, medical ethics, customer service and legal issues.  This program is intended to provide participants with a well rounded introduction to medical administration so they can gain the necessary skills required to obtain a health care administration position.  Those registering for this course should possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
