Building Inspection Courses (BSBI)

Partnership with the Better School of Building Inspection

Are you interested in becoming a home inspector in Texas?  In association with the Better School of Building Inspection (BSBI), the Office of Continuing Education offers correspondence and online courses.

Texas' requirements for becoming a home inspector were modified in October 2007.  BSBI is approved to offer all 448 hours required to be a professional real estate inspector with no apprenticeship / sponsorship required.  All 448 hours are offered through DVD's, manuals, and practice inspections - no need to sit in a classroom.

After you complete the 448 hours, you also need to pass the State exam to get your license.  It is a difficult exam, so, in addition to the training material, BSBI has also developed a Texas Exam Study Guide, included at no extra cost.  One reason the test is so hard is that many of the questions have to do with code, not home inspection.  BSBI covers code in this training.  Inspectors in Texas are licensed through the Texas Real Estate Commission - TREC
