Mold has been labeled a "Growing Concern" in the industry. Certain mold can have a negative effect on people, especially people who have a low immune system.

General Questions and Answers

How much can I charge for an inspection? On a national average inspectors charge $125 per sample. Another idea is to charge $200 for a consultation and then apply that towards the samples that may need to be taken.

Is there insurance available for mold inspections? Yes. ESA has affordable Mold Errors and Omissions Insurance available with a General Liability coverage.

Are there acceptible limits for mold like there is for radon? At this time there are no mold limits set by the government or EPA. However, there are industry recgonized guidelines that are used in mold inspections and assessments, that this course follows.

I have mentioned to some realtors about mold and they were not receptive to it. Are all realtors like this? No. The ones that do not want to talk about mold inspections have probably have concerns about a potential loss of sale. If there is a possibility mold exists, and you explain to realtors a mold inspection helps reduce their liability when the report is explained to the client, they may be more receptive. Remember though, realtors are not the only source of busniess.

Is it expensive to get into performing mold inspections? A typical start up mold kit can cost $350 - $450 which should include your pump, air sampling media, direct sampling media, filters and carrying case. Respirators cost between $20 - $30 and lab fees range from $20 - $40 per sample.
