Course Value
The goals of this course are: (1) to present design and construction information on the major structural systems used in houses including foundations, floor, wall and roof, and framing systems; and, (2) to provide inspection guidelines that will assist the home inspector with the evaluation of these structural systems.
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
- Understand basic residential construction design principles
- Identify and describe common residential building components
- Inspect structural systems in accordance with home inspection industry standards
- Understand the common concerns and issues related to the house structure
- Determine the physical condition of the house structure
- Identify the presence of common structural system deficiencies
- Assess the significance of observed structural defects
- Utilize common reporting approaches to inform a homebuyer of inspection findings
