Pack It Up and Pass It On is the end-of-the-year recycling program that allows Texas State students to donate unwanted items to local needy families. Last year, 1,000 San Marcos residents benefited from this program.

WHAT CAN BE DONATED?


Residence Hall & Campus Apartment Students
Donation barrels will be set up in your lobby in April.

Acceptable donations include clean clothes & linens, shoes, books, toiletries, kitchen items, stuffed animals, small appliances, computers and electronics.  Anything reusable and in good condition, please.

Oversized items like couches and desks will not be picked up at this location.  Please call 512.245.9645 for alternative pick up.

Unacceptable donations include cinder blocks, loft building materials, dirty clothes or linens, opened food or cleaning supplies, and trash.

Off-Campus Students, Faculty and Staff
Don’t feel left out...Donations can be dropped off. Email communityrelations@txstate.edu or call 512. 245.9645 to make arrangements.

 

 2012 Statistics

  • 7 tons of donations (that is 2 elephants!)
  • 68 cubic feet not going into landfills
  • 750 local residents attended the Free Shopping Day
  • More than 1,000 family members benefited from this program
  • $1000 was not paid for dump trucks to take items to landfills

San Marcos News: Reuse and Outreach to the Community
Pack It Up and Pass It On "Green" Move-Out Program

Texas State University staff and student volunteers prepare for the 10th Annual “Pack It Up and Pass It On” recycling collection with donations from hundreds of students moving out of resident halls that benefit clients of United Way agencies and keeps seven tons of reusable items out of area landfills.  Mayor Daniel Guerrero proclaimed  “Pack It Up Day” and honored students who work with the program that assists more than 1,000 needy residents every year. Local residents wanting to donate items can call TxSt Community Relations to make arrangements for drop-off.
