You are invited to apply for up to $750 in funds for a Common Experience event planned for fall 2016 or spring 2017.
The 2016-2017 Common Experience theme, "A Century of Conflict: Dialogues on the U.S. Experience of War since 1917," aims to provide a campus-wide conversation on the ways in which wars and conflicts have shaped U.S. identity, culture, society, and policy. From international and global involvements to direct participation in armed conflicts and treaty agreements seeking peaceable solutions, U.S. wars in the past century have affected those in combat roles; influenced the development of the economy; contributed to changes in individual rights and responsibilities; affected higher education and the pace of medical, technological, and scientific change; and transformed communities across the country.
As the world has begun exploring and remembering the transformations associated with World War I, Texas State's Common Experience provokes broad, interdisciplinary reflection upon the ways wars have transformed and continue to transform society in the United States in conversations throughout the year. The mini-grants are intended to foster cross-disciplinary dialogues about this Common Experience.
The mini-grant application is available via the link at the bottom of this page (login required). For additional information, contact Dr. Pam Wuestenberg (email@example.com) or Ms. Diann McCabe (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Proposals will be evaluated on:
- the relationship to the Common Experience theme
- the number of co-sponsors providing financial support
- the potential for continued dialogue about the Common Experience theme
- the diversity and size of the anticipated audience
- the publicity plan for the event
The committee will look favorably upon proposals that reflect collaboration across university areas through joint sponsorship and shared funding. Requests for funds for the purchase of food will be rejected.
Please submit your completed proposal to Dr. Pam Wuestenberg (email@example.com) before 5 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2017.
All applicants will be notified by February 17, 2017, regarding the status of their proposals. All funded applicants must provide a brief follow-up report to the committee within one month of the event.
