Mini-Grant Proposals

Call for Mini-Grants for the 2014-2015 Common Experience
Exploring Democracy’s Promise: From Segregation to Integration

Faculty and staff are invited to apply for up to $500 in funds for a Common Experience event planned for fall 2014 or spring 2015.
The 2014-2015 Common Experience theme, Exploring Democracy’s Promise: From Segregation to Integration, aims to provide a campus-wide conversation on the trials of segregation and the impact of integration, raising the question of how we internalize change. The 50-year anniversary of the desegregation of our institution is an opportunity to examine issues related to equal access to higher education and the role of laws, litigation, and civil rights movements in helping students obtain higher education. In doing so, we encourage a cross-disciplinary conversation about differences and experiences of the many who are marginalized, ignored, or forgotten.
Mini-grant information and forms are available at the link provided at the bottom of this page (login required). For additional information about the mini-grant process, please contact Ms. Diann McCabe ( or Dr. Pam Wuestenberg (, or call 512.245.2266.

» the relationship to the Common Experience theme

» the potential for continued dialogue related to the Common Experience theme
» the diversity of the anticipated audience
» the anticipated size of audience
» the publicity plan

The committee will look favorably on proposals that reflect collaboration across university areas through joint sponsorship, and on proposals that reflect shared funding. Requests for funds for the purchase of food will be rejected.
