Fall 2013 Common Experience Speaker Patrick Kennedy, Tuesday, October 08, 2013

Patrick Kennedy will give the Texas State Fall 2013 Common Experience speech in the Evans Liberal Arts Auditorium on the evening of Tuesday, October 8th, 2013.

Kennedy is a retired U.S. Congressman, and the son of the late Senator Edward Kennedy.  He is the nephew of President John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States, with whom Texas State alumnus President Lyndon B. Johnson served as vice president.  Patrick Kennedy was the chief sponsor of the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008, which enhanced insurance coverage for psychiatric illnesses.  He is also cofounder of One Mind for Research, a non-profit organization that funds research and greater public awareness of mental illness and brain injuries.  Patrick Kennedy is widely known for his passionate advocacy on behalf of people who live with mental illness
