2013 Conference Program

The 2013 Conference Schedule is available now!

9:00 AM - 9:15 AM

Welcome and Introductions and Framing the Day:

A wonderful welcome to our participants from the College of Education, the CLAS Department and the Educational Leadership Program.  We will begin by framing the day and how this conference will reflect our theme (The Art(s) of Leadership) by engaging participants in conversation and reflection in a way that is new, exciting and dynamic.

9:15 AM - 10:30 AM

Keynote Presenation: Dr. Francisco Guajardo, UTPA

Dr. Guajardo and his team from UTPA will engage participants in a conversation titled: The Art(s) of Leadership: creating the climate, infrastructure and processes that facilitate the creative imagination.

10:30 AM - 12:15 PM

Open Space Technology - Framing the Conversations/Organizing the Breakouts:

Based on the work of Harrison Owen, we will be conducting our morning breakouts using a modified version of Open Space Technology.  In this way, participants will be encouraged to create their own panels/conversations and convene around those areas of most interest.  In this way, rather than convening a space where we create a binary of "experts" and "non-experts," we look to create a true learning space where all participants have expertise and the wisdom of the collective will help illuminate various issues for everyone involved.  You can find more information on Open Space Technology here.

12:15 PM - 1:30 PM

Lunch Conversation and Performances

1:45 PM - 4:00 PM

Afternoon Conversations:

In our afternoon conversations, we will convene around specific topics which will allow participants the opportunity to workshop around best practices and create action plans/next step documents for use in their work.  The topics are listed below:

Parent Engagement

Cultural Relevance

Youth Work

Play/Imagination

Assets and Community Mapping

Public Pedagogy/Public Spaces
