Program Advisor Welcome

Congratulations on deciding to pursue a career in student affairs! The field of student affairs encompasses many different opportunities to positively influence the lives of college students. The field also provides avenues to affect positive change on college campuses and within the larger communities in which colleges and universities are situated. Student affairs professionals find their careers very rewarding and benefit from many opportunities to continue to develop and engage in a journey of lifelong learning.

Texas State University’s master of education program in Student Affairs in Higher Education (SAHE) is a comprehensive program that will provide you an exceptional education, both inside and outside of the classroom. The innovative and relevant curriculum is coupled with many opportunities to gain practical experiences in a variety of functional areas of student affairs. The diverse faculty bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the classroom. The faculty serve in prominent leadership roles within professional organizations statewide and nationally, and the faculty are nationally recognized as exceptional student affairs professionals and scholars.

Students in the program reflect a diverse array of backgrounds and experiences, which contributes to the richness of the learning environment. Students take courses in a cohort-based model, allowing for great opportunity to build a strong learning community and integrate learning across the curriculum. Nearly all students also hold graduate assistantship positions across campus, allowing for the development of valuable experiences and skills and an opportunity to bridge classroom learning and professional practice.

I am pleased in your interest in the SAHE program, and I invite you to learn more about the program through exploring this website. Should you desire more information please feel free to contact us. Additionally, I invite you to come visit campus and set up a time to meet with students or faculty, visit a class, or tour campus and assistantship sites.

Best of luck with your graduate school search. I do hope you will consider joining the Texas State community!
