Course Description

 

Provides experience in supervising practicum or intern students and integrating the theoretical foundations and current issues of professional supervision. Emphasis includes ethical, multicultural, gender, age, and lifestyle concerns in supervisory relationships, and academic requirements for supervisory status for Texas Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Specialist in School Psychology credentials. Course can be repeated once for credit.

 

Course Objectives

 

The student will be able…

  • To define and conceptualize supervision and models of supervision
  • To establish supervisory relationships with students in clinical experience
  • To understand methods and techniques of professional supervision
    • To understand the roles of teacher, counselor, and consultant
    • To understand process, conceptualization, and personalization
    • To understand group supervision
    • To understand multicultural supervision (racial, ethnic, gender, age, lifestyle issues)
    • To understand methods of evaluation

       4) To articulate the LPC supervisory requirements

 

Methods of Instruction:

Methods of instruction include (not exclusively) one-on-one instruction; written reports of readings; practicum experience in supervising; observation of group and individual supervision; supervision of the supervisee in training.

Required readings and texts will be distributed and/or made available.

 

 

Course Requirements:

The student will be able…

  • To participate in a supervisory experience under a faculty member's supervision with practicum students or students in clinical experience
  • To establish professional supervisory relationships and provide individual feedback and facilitate student growth
  • To co-facilitate group supervision
  • To participate in the planning and implementation of supervision
  • To practice supervision planning and contracting, record keeping, and reporting

 

Grading:

Graded on a credit (CR), no credit (F) basis.
