COALITION OF BLACK FACULTY & STAFF

 

MEETING:      January 24, 2002

LOCATION:   LBJSC 3.6.1

TIME:              3:30 PM

 

VISION:   To promote togetherness, develop a strong unified body, and gain recognition within the SWT and surrounding community.  Empower and encourage other faculty and staff to be about the coalition.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

MEETINGS:

  1. Meeting with President Trauth – February 11th @ 2PM (location to be determined)
    • Update statistical findings/reports on faculty/staff
    • Update faculty/staff accomplishments for Sherri Benn
    • Develop questions for discussion with President Trauth (gather concerns from other faculty/staff/students/community figures)
  2. Weekly Lunches

·         Thursdays from 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM @ U-CLUB

·         Wednesdays @ 2:30 PM (location to be determined)

  1. Upcoming Meetings

·         February 5th @ 1:30 PM (location to be determined) – Preparation for meeting with the President

·         February 13th @ 1:30 PM (location to be determined) – Follow up after the meeting with the President

 

CONCERNS:

  1. The State of Texas hiring freeze and its impact on SWT minority hiring practices.
  2. Pursuing the potential student’s attitudes/perceptions of faculty and its impact on student enrollment.
  3. Create minority staffing within the athletic department for mentoring purposes with minority athletes.
  4. Minimize the new faculty/staff feeling of isolation upon employment with SWT.
  5. Develop a contact within the Human Resources Department to receive a listing of new minority faculty/staff.

 

RECOMMENDATIONS:

  1. Maintain lunch/email contact with minority faculty/staff.
  2. Invite other faculty/staff to activities outside of work.
  3. Create a welcoming committee for minority faculty/staff.
