YOUR SECURITY RESPONSIBILITIES
CatsWeb services incorporate security
features designed to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive or confidential
information. Unless you follow the guidelines below, you will
compromise this security. It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to follow these
guidelines when using secure CatsWeb services.
- Logout when you are finished. To logout, click the
"Logout" button. If you do not logout, someone else could access
information using your identity. If you fail to logout, you will be automatically
logged out after a period of inactivity.
- Close your browser when you are finished. Never leave your session
unattended.
- Keep your password and PIN private.
Your password and PIN have been assigned to you and you alone. Do not share your password or PIN with
anyone.
- If you are in a public computing site (e.g., a computer lab), be
aware of someone attempting to look over your shoulder ("shoulder
surfing").
- Most incidents of computer "hacking" or other forms of
uninvited intrusions are the result of poor password/PIN selection or
protection. Don't become a victim by being careless in your handling or
selection of passwords. See "What
guidelines should I follow when selecting a password?" for more information.
- Whenever you are asked to enter your password or PIN, make sure the
URL (Universal Resource Locator) of your current page
begins with the the following address:
"https://catsweb.txstate.edu/". The URL
may have more text after this address, but it must start with this
address.
- Make sure the security icon at the bottom of your browser window
indicates a secure connection has been established. An unsecured
connection means the information on your screen will be traveling down the
network in an easily readable format, and could be stolen by someone who
is monitoring the network.
REMEMBER: You are responsible for all
CatsWeb activity that is accomplished using your password or PIN. Proper
password/PIN security helps ensure that others cannot access information using
your identity. If at any time you feel that your password or PIN has been
compromised, change it IMMEDIATELY. Any misuse of your password or PIN should
be reported to Technology Resources.
