Sara's Thoughts on Texas State

Why Texas State?

I was recruited for track and field, so that was a big determining factor in why I chose Texas State. The university has a great women’s track and field team. But as soon as I stepped on campus, I knew I would love this school.

What I Love About Texas State

The location and the environment. It’s “San Marvelous,” Texas, and it’s always pretty here. It’s not too big of a city, and it just provides a good living environment for college students. Austin and San Antonio are right down the road, and they are great to visit when you want to have a good time or even when you’re looking for job internships. Also, Texas State was ranked on the Princeton Review’s top 150 list of the universities that offer the best value. That’s a great accomplishment for a school to have.

Career Goals

I want to be a financial planner for professional athletes or work in banking.

Favorite Professor

Professor Ross-Fountain, who teaches philosophy, is my favorite because her class is very relaxed, and she always relates whatever we cover in class to real-life situations. The class is more group discussion than anything, so there’s always something going on. She’s just a cool teacher who allows the students to be themselves. You feel as if your opinion is always valued. She is very helpful, and you can tell she loves her job.

Best Studying Advice

First, make sure to take notes. Then read them over the same night you take them. Go to study sessions and review sessions, take advantage of the free services on campus (the Writing Center, Student Learning Assistance Center, Supplemental Instruction tutoring sessions, etc.). Sometimes studying with others helps, too.
