 | | Reagan's Thoughts on Texas State Why Texas State I chose Texas State for its location in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, for its people and for the opportunities. The folks at Texas State are the best — kind, helpful and excited to be where they are. Texas State is a large university, but the educational, extra-curricular and professional opportunities here exceed schools of similar size. Career Goals I like to say that I’ll end up in the business of re-inventing. Whether it’s politics, marketing or creative writing, I hope to spin the kaleidoscope just a few millimeters and allow people to see the world in a new, beautiful way. Favorite Professor It would have to be Kathleen Peirce. She taught my junior-level poetry seminar and an honors course called “The Voices of Eros in Poetry.” Although Kathleen is a professor and a highly accomplished poet, she makes sure to let her students know that she is still just figuring it all out as we are. She recently won a Guggenheim Fellowship and is working on a book-length poem. Most Valuable Learning Experience at Texas State The process of running for student body president has been my most valuable experience. The struggle to remain positive and motivated was difficult, but working with others to motivate an entire student body is another thing. I learned humility and integrity. My Organizations Associated Student Government Student Foundation Student Association for Campus Activities Texas State Mentoring Program Student Chapter of the Alumni Association The Common Experience Honors and Leadership Positions 2007 Homecoming King 2007-08 Student Body President My Writing For the past two years my poems “Floor Never,” “Room With A View” and “Subtle” have been published in Texas State’s annual literary journal, Persona. Best Campus Hangout The Quad. It’s the place to see everyone you know and find out what all of the campus organizations are up to. You can feel the excitement of Texas State under those trees. Where I Go for Fun A Texas State football game! Start tailgating at about 10 in the morning and stay until it’s over. What I Tell Future Texas State Students Come to a large, prominent and affordable state university that is making waves all over the world with student successes, faculty research and recognition and award-winning programs. And guess what? There is a place especially for you. You will be a part of the family. | | | | | | | | | Meet other Texas State Bobcats and read about their experiences at Texas State University-San Marcos. | Interested in reading more?
