Pedro’s Thoughts on Texas State
Why Texas State
I chose Texas State because I wanted a change from my hometown and a place to grow as an individual and a student. Texas State, as well as San Marcos, seemed like the place to do it.
Why Social Work
I originally was an electrical engineering major. But because of my involvement with a program at a local domestic violence agency, I realized what I truly wanted out of life: a profession where I could help people and still have time for my family.
How My Major Will Help Me Reach My Goals
What makes me know that I am going to be a successful social worker is the quality of professors that I have had within my major. They do everything in their power to help mold their students into what one of them calls “Super Social Workers.” I feel confident that the lessons I am learning will help me better serve the needs of individuals.
My Most Valuable Learning Experience at Texas State
Something I learned in my first year is to find an organization or group of individuals that you can call your own. I say this because school is challenging — even more so if you are working — and if all you do in your college life is just go to school and work, there is a good chance that you might burn out, pack up and go home. Having a purpose outside of classes is what has helped keep me motivated the last 2½ years at Texas State.

Benefits of Fraternity Membership
My brothers have kept me grounded. They have offered me the pants off their legs, the only bed in their rooms and their last slice of turkey breast in order to help me. When most of us move away from college, our families are no longer just a few minutes down the road, but because of my brothers here and across the nation, I have family everywhere.
