Olivia's Thoughts on Texas State
Why Texas State
I chose Texas State because it is located in a great area, the Hill Country, which is beautiful. It’s also the perfect distance from my home in Houston. Another reason I chose Texas State is because it is a big university that has a small town feel, which I really like!
Why Health and Fitness Management
At first I wanted to study physical therapy, but I really enjoy the business side of health and fitness. I was able to unite both health and business when I became a health and fitness management major.
Career Goals
There are so many things that I would like to do. Ultimately, I would like to either own a gym someday or work in the administration of a hospital. My major will help me reach my goals because I will have all the health and business knowledge I need to achieve my dreams.
Typical Class Day
I have two jobs and I am the treasurer of Black Student Alliance, so there is no such thing as a typical day. However, I can tell you about an ideal day in my shoes. I wake up at 7:15 a.m., get dressed and get ready for my 8 a.m. class. After class I work on campus until 12:15 p.m. Then I attend another class. At 2 p.m. I go back to work until 5 p.m. Then I walk to the LBJ Student Center for the weekly Black Student Alliance meeting that begins at 6 p.m. After that I attend my weekly executive board meeting until about 8:30 p.m.
Best Studying Advice
I have to see things three times for them to sink in. The first time is when I take notes in class. The second time is when I make my own review using the notes and the book. The third time is when I study my review. So my best advice is to look at your notes and your book multiple times so that it stays in your brain.
