Marques’ Thoughts on Texas State
Why Texas State
I chose Texas State because of its beauty, affordability and proximity to my hometown.
Why Geographic Information Science
I chose to pursue a degree in
geographic information science because of the strength of the
Geography Department and its faculty. Having the largest Geography Department in the nation creates the opportunity to bring in some of the finest educators in the country. The professors throughout the department are second to none and provide us with the knowledge to be successful.
Career Goals
After graduation, I plan to return to continue my education here at Texas State and receive a master’s in geography. After that I would like to work in the field of site planning or retail location
My Typical Class-Day Schedule
I work on campus from 9–11 a.m., go to class from 11 a.m.–2 p.m., work again from 2–5 p.m., then go to lacrosse practice from 5–7:30 p.m.
My Most Valuable Learning Experience
During my freshman year, I learned the art of time management. Finals were coming up, and I hadn’t started to study. After a couple of all-night sessions, I realized that waiting until the last minute to study wasn’t something that a successful student should do. Since then, I have been very schedule-oriented, and I try to do most things in a very timely manner.
Best Studying Advice
The best studying advice that I have is to find a nice quiet place without many distractions, turn on some good music and try not to procrastinate.
