Mark's Thoughts on Texas State
Why Texas State
I found out about Texas State at a college fair at Austin Community College when I was a student there. The atmosphere at Texas State and the convenience of the location helped me decide to be a Bobcat.
Why Manufacturing Engineering Technology
I wanted a more hands-on approach to engineering. My goal is to work in the manufacturing industry until I reach a senior-level position, and then start my own domestic manufacturing company.
How My Major Will Help Me Reach My Goals
My program at Texas State has prepared me for the many challenges of a complex manufacturing system. Several companies have taken an interest in me as a result of the knowledge I’ve learned through my studies.
I was hired by a Top 10 Fortune 500 company and will start working there upon my graduation. This was as a result of the program and knowledge I have received at Texas State University. I am proud to be a Bobcat.
I am president of the American Foundry Association on campus. I have gained a wealth of knowledge and professional networking opportunities due to my involvement.
My biggest accomplishment will be graduation itself. I am the only male in my immediate family of eight and my extended family of more than 50 to ever complete a bachelor’s degree.

When I'm Not in Class
I am a big time fisherman, so I spend a lot of time doing that.
Advice for Future Students
Challenge yourself. Don’t necessarily go to school for something because it’s easy or sounds fun. This is a new financial age we live in where smarter college decisions need to be made in order to be successful. You may enjoy reading Hamlet, but that doesn’t mean you need to major in literature.
