Kenneth's Thoughts on Texas State
Why Texas State
I chose Texas State because it’s centrally located between two major cities and it’s not too far from my hometown of Houston.
Why Biology
I chose to major in biology after my sister had a difficult pregnancy. Because of some complications, the fetus was not developing correctly, which led me to want to understand and fix such problems.
Career Goals
After undergraduate school, I plan on attending medical school and eventually becoming a doctor.
How My Major Will Help Me Reach My Goals
Although it may sound simple, my main goal in life is to help people. My degree will allow me to interact with others on a daily basis and help people with any medical complications they may face.
Typical Class-Day Schedule
I wake up early and go to bed late at night. I usually do not have much time to eat between classes and studying, so my friends find me nibbling on snacks all day long.
Best Studying Advice
As soon as you get an assignment do it. Do not procrastinate. Studying should be a daily routine that’s not troublesome. Set at least an hour or more aside each day per class to study and review notes or material you may need to know. The key is to find a quiet and relaxing spot to study with no distractions. I usually turn my phone off while studying so Facebook is not accessible.
Hobbies
I am a big movie fanatic and enjoy watching all kinds of movies. Anything from scary movies to romantic comedies; I love them all. I enjoy listening to different genres of music and quoting lyrics. I also try to work out, swim and shop as much as possible.
Favorite Movie
“Where the Heart Is” is my favorite movie because it shows the struggles of a single mother and how she overcomes difficulties. The main character easily finds beauty in every aspect of her life, something I strive for daily.
Favorite San Marcos Hangouts
The movie theatre and the outlet malls, because you usually run into people you know or have seen around campus.
Where I Go To Relax
Sewell Park is the perfect place to go and relax on a Sunday afternoon.
What I Like Most About Texas State
Although Texas State has more than 30,000 students, it feels like a close-knit community. The faculty, staff and students here are friendly, welcoming and eager to help one another.
Favorite Campus Hangout
The rocking chairs on the fourth floor of LBJ Student Center. This is just a place you can sit down and relax. The view of San Marcos and the student center mall is great.
Favorite Campus Dining Hall
The Den is great. It has a little bit of everything and when the weather is warm you can sit outside in the covered breezeway and hang out with friends.
