Kelly's Thoughts on Texas State
Why Texas State
When I came to tour the campus as a transfer student, all the students and faculty treated those in my tour group like we were family members. They made me feel like I was home. After that tour, I knew I wanted to go to college here.
Why Fashion Merchandising
I’ve always loved fashion. So, when I heard that Texas State had a
fashion merchandising program I decided to take a few courses. After my introductory courses, I knew the program was the right fit for me, and I haven’t regretted it since.
Career Goals
I would like to be an event planner for a record label someday.
Favorite Professor
I love every single one of my professors, so it’s hard to pick just one. I did an independent study with Dr. Sharon Welkey, and she really opened my eyes. She really wants her students to succeed in everything they do and have fun while they do it. She told me to sign up for some things that I wouldn’t have thought about doing. She has made me a stronger person inside and out.
My Most Valuable Learning Experience at Texas State
How to manage my time. In the fashion merchandising program, there are a lot of projects, so to finish them all I had to learn how to manage my time better.
Best Studying Advice
Don’t procrastinate! If you get a project at the beginning of the semester, start working on it that day. Do a little every day, and that way you won’t be stressing about it a week before it’s due. The more ways you can minimize your stress level in college, the better your college experience is going to be.

Why I am Involved at Texas State
Being in a club or organization is a great way to meet new people. They might have some of the same interests as you, and that makes it easy to transition into college life or a new program. It’s also a good way to ask other students about classes they might have taken already.
Honors and Awards

What I Like Most About Texas State
I like how everyone is so friendly and inviting. It’s very different from other colleges I’ve visited in the past. It’s my home away from home.
