Jacob's Thoughts on the RRHEC and Texas State
Jacob is a student at the Round Rock Higher Education Center
(RRHEC) north of Austin, Texas, where more than 1,500 other students are earning degrees offered by Texas State University
Why the RRHEC
I visited the campus after seeing a billboard and quickly fell in love with it. I like that at the RRHEC, I can obtain my bachelor’s degree in small classroom settings with other serious and focused students like myself.
After graduation, I am planning to join the U.S. Air Force and work on my master’s degree. When I leave the Air Force, I plan on going into pharmaceutical sales.
My Favorite Professor
My favorite, hands-down, is Dr. Judy Oskam
. She always has a great attitude and is always willing to help, not only with class work but extracurricular ideas and endeavors. She is a joy in and out of the classroom, and she always makes time for her students. She truly cares about our futures.
Most Valuable Learning Experience
The most successful people were failures at one time. It is through our failures and trials and tribulations that we find success. I have learned that you can never stand in the same river twice. You grow and learn from your experiences, and the RRHEC has molded me into the determined, outgoing, blessed and thankful person I am today.
Life can be tough, but the knowledge that there is no restart button lets me focus on facing challenges and overcoming obstacles. I’ve worked two jobs and taken 15 hours of classes at the same time and survived it. It’s never as bad as you make it out to be. If you never try you’ll never know what you are capable of. I also have learned that to be a great leader you have to expect the unexpected. Do your best and the result of that will be very rewarding.
What I Do in My Free Time
I enjoy learning to play the guitar. I’ve played the drums for about 16 years now, so I thought it was time to pick up something new. Other than that, I enjoy my time with family and friends.
Where I Go to Study
This campus is not crowded, so my friends and I enjoy finding an empty room where we can discuss class projects. There are a couple of lounges where we go to read.
What I Like Most About Attending the RRHEC
I like the student-centered focus this campus provides. I feel as if I have received an awesome education from this institution.
What I Tell Future Students About the RRHEC
They have to see it to believe it. Depending on what your major is, it is a good place to learn and enjoy your college career.
