Quite honestly, I chose Texas State because I wanted to start over. I wanted to go to a university where I knew no one, but one that had a strong academic program. Of all the universities I was accepted to, Texas State seemed most suitable for me. Not only was it what I was looking for, but it also came with other benefits like the beautiful campus, diversity, down-to-earth atmosphere, and best of all, professors who actually care and want the best for their students.
I would be lying if I did not respond to this question by saying, “personal experience.” What can I say? I have been on both sides of the spectrum: a patient with a mental illness and a student who has been given the chance to learn and help others. But my decision to become a psychology major was simple. I want to be able to help those in need.
I plan on going to graduate school right after my bachelor’s and eventually get a doctorate in clinical psychology.
That’s a toughie, because I pretty much loved/love all my psychology professors. Professor Claudia Brown was one of my favorites my freshman year, when I was taking my intro classes. She is bright, warm-hearted, and always has a smile on her face. I also have a very special thank-you for Dr. Randall Osborne and Dr. Harvey Ginsburg. Not only are they great, wise professors who know their stuff, but they also are amazing mentors who are always willing to help and listen. If it were not for Dr. Osborne and Ginsburg, I would not be where I am today and not know half of what I know now.
Although I plead guilty to doing so, I highly suggest you do not wait until the last minute and cram. Get your readings done when your professor assigns them to you, and try to learn something each day so you know the gist of things when it comes time for studying.

The Rec Center! You always see someone you know there and on top of that, it’s a social/fun way to stay healthy and fit.
The good thing about San Marcos is that it’s right in between Austin and San Antonio. We all know we can find something to do in the Austin area, and there’s always the river walk in San Antonio. Oh yeah, and let’s not forget about floating the river in Gruene.
The people! I’m all about going with the flow and hanging out. You see a lot of down to earth, open-minded, and interesting people here, and I dig that.
Out of all the college campuses I have visited in Texas, I absolutely love San Marcos and Texas State. It’s an awesome university, and the people and town never get old.
