Chris' Thoughts on Texas State
Why Texas State
I chose Texas State to be part of a growing university that values its students and gives them personal relationships with their teachers.
Why Political Science
I originally started as a jazz studies major and through my freshman year I found my passion was helping my peers and others. Political science is the study of how people work together to live or govern.
Career Goals
For now, I have my heart set on law school up north at Columbia, NYU or Yale. I hope to become a district attorney and have a career through other avenues of public service.
How My Program Will Help Me Reach My Goals
To be a good law student you need to know how to think, write, analyze and do research. The political science major is giving me the opportunity to learn these things well.
Favorite Professor
My favorite professor has been
Dr. Arnold Leder in the Department of Political Science. My first semester I took his class on basic political ideas and it was the first time I had to read, think and apply my thoughts. He helped all his students do that.
My Most Valuable Learning experience at Texas State
My first semester here I had to learn how to study. I forced myself to go to the
library every day and use the resources available to me. This taught me I could really learn and do anything I set my mind to.
Best Studying Advice
Try to study two hours a day if you can, and study even if you are ahead. If you learn to study ahead and take good notes you will start to find that reading and writing really does prepare you for class and tests. It gets easier!

What I Tell Future Texas State Students
Texas State University is the most personal school in the state. This is a large university with a little more than 29,000 students, but it feels small and welcoming. We are making waves in the state and proving to be a premier university in the country. I promise, if you get involved you will love Texas State University.
