Celisse’s Thoughts on Texas State
Why Texas State
When I first visited Texas State, I really liked the atmosphere and the San Marcos area. Now, I really like the professors here, too. We are not treated as numbers.
Favorite Professor
Dr. Shirley Ogletree is a fabulous professor who truly cares about her students. She is not afraid to use her personal experiences to help us relate to information we learn in class. She is passionate about her work and has inspired me to continue my education in psychology beyond undergraduate school. Dr. Crystal Oberle is another great professor at Texas State. She genuinely wants her students to learn and succeed in her class. She dedicates her time and energy to her research and to making sure that the undergraduate psychology experience lives up to its potential. I highly recommend taking classes with these professors!
My Involvement at Texas State
I belong to a research group that Dr. Ogletree created. I’ve been working with her and a few other students on her research. We co-authored a paper titled “Gendered Comparisons of Advertisement Pictures in AARP: The Magazine.” We presented it at the 87th Annual Meeting of the Southwestern Social Science Association in Albuquerque, N.M., in March 2007.
Best Studying Advice
Do not procrastinate! You will avoid a lot of stress. Also, print out class notes before you go to class. This will save you the time it takes to copy down the PowerPoint notes during a lecture and allow you to listen to what the professor is really saying.
Where I Relax
Sewell is a great place to unwind because it is fun to meet friends there and lay out under the sun. It is a nice break from sitting in class all day. Also, it is such a rush to jump into the freezing river, lay out, then jump in again!
