Cecilia’s Thoughts on Texas State
Why Texas State
I chose Texas State because it was a university that was diverse, the professor-student ratio provided for an optimal learning environment, and it was just the right distance from home (not too far and not too close).
What I’m Doing Now
The month after I finished my master’s degree, I moved to Harlingen, Texas, for a job opportunity. I’m completing my nine-month speech-language clinical fellowship by working at a rehab clinic for children. I provide speech/language services for children ages 1-14. After nine months, I will earn the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Career Goals
Eventually, I hope to own a private clinic that will focus on prevention, assessment and intervention of communication disorders found among the multilingual and multicultural population.
Favorite Professor
All the faculty members I encountered as an undergraduate and graduate student at Texas State were very welcoming and encouraging. Dr. Diana Gonzales is my favorite because she encouraged me to go above and beyond to meet my utmost potential. With her assistance in and outside of class, I feel I have become very knowledgeable in my career field and that I have learned more about my potential.
Best Studying Advice
If anything helped me through my college years, it was managing my time so that I could include a daily study session to review the notes and lessons of that day. With that daily review, I could retain information better so that studying for tests was easier. I also completed assignments as soon as I received them so that I had more time to do the things I like most.
What I Love About Texas State
I like that it is a friendly and close-knit community. The experiences I had as a student, the opportunities I was given, and the friendships I was blessed with because I chose Texas State have been remarkable.
