Briana's Thoughts on Texas State
Why Texas State
I chose Texas State because of its location. When I first became a Bobcat I was in a wheelchair from a surgery on my feet. So I wanted to stay close to home and my family, but I also wanted to become independent. A half-hour from Austin, Texas State was the perfect choice. I’ve stayed because I love the campus and the people.
My goal in life is to be successful at whatever I do, but most important, to be happy at what I do. My immediate goals are to graduate with a bachelor’s degree, get an internship in my field and go on to earn my master’s degree. What’s so great about health professions majors is that the programs are designed to help you succeed. With the required internship, I’ll be able to see how things operate in my field.
My favorite professor is my chemistry professor, Jeff McVey
. He is always available if you need help and very patient if you don’t understand something.
Most Valuable Learning Experience at Texas State
I have learned how to be healthy. On campus there is a rec center
that any student can use. Whether you like to lift weights, do aerobics, use the elliptical, or play racquetball, you can do it there. Also, with all the hills on campus, if you aren’t in shape at the beginning of the semester, you will be by the end of it.
My Leadership Position
As Sterry Hall Government’s historian, I take pictures at every Sterry Hall event. Being part of my residence hall’s government also allows me to voice my opinions and think of ways to solve hall problems.
Best Campus Hangout
I like hanging out on the third floor balcony of the LBJ Student Center
because not many people know it’s there. It’s nice and quiet, and I can read a book or do homework outside in the fresh air.
Best Campus Dining Hall
I like Jones Food Court
because of its new salad place. You can put anything on your salad: mandarin oranges, mushrooms, corn, whatever you want; but I get the good old-fashioned Caesar.
Favorite San Marcos Hangout
My friends and I love to go to the outlet malls. There is just something about shopping after a hard test that makes your day better.
What I Like Most About Texas State
I like the sense of community and how nice and open everyone is here. There is something always happening on campus that gets students involved: movie nights, guest speakers, performances, salsa nights and many more events throughout each semester.
