Brett's Thoughts on Texas State
Why Texas State
In high school I fell in love with the city of Austin, but I also wanted to live in a small-town setting. San Marcos, 25 miles south of Austin, provides the best of both worlds. I also heard from many friends who were attending Texas State that it has a fantastic marketing program.
How my Major Will Help me Reach My Goals
Getting a BBA in the
McCoy College of Business Administration requires that students learn about all aspects of business in addition to their major. This gives an overall perspective of the business world while ensuring one is prepared for a job in their field of choice. Also, the business school has a huge emphasis on teamwork, giving students a better understanding of accomplishing more as a group than as an individual.
Favorite Professor
Since I was a freshman,
Dr. Gail Zank has given me great advice that has guided me through my experience at Texas State and prepared me for a career in marketing. She genuinely respects and cares about all her students. As an advisor for Texas State’s student chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA), she extends her desire to help students by guiding our successful organization, which has earned Superior Chapter honors for the past two years.
My Clubs and Organizations
American Marketing Association (AMA) Beta Gamma Sigma Alpha Mu Alpha Golden Key Club
Benefits of Being Involved at Texas State
AMA has given me a great opportunity to network with professionals and other business majors and improve skills necessary for the business world.
Hobbies
I thoroughly enjoy a healthy jam session, playing a few country or folk tunes with my best friends. I also enjoy kayaking, reading, longboarding, scuba diving, traveling, fishing and watching the Houston Astros.
Favorite Book
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Pirsig has been one of the most influential books I have ever read. By consisting of both Eastern and Western philosophies and illuminating a balance between
Technology and Nature, it delivers an extraordinary perspective of the world we live in.
What I Like Most About Texas State
The faculty is incomparable. I have always been able to contact my professors with any questions or concerns. I realized how great our professors are the day I volunteered to work a
Bobcat Day on a Saturday morning and the chair of the Department of Marketing was there beside me answering questions for potential students.
