Ashley's Thoughts on Texas State

Why Texas State

I started at a junior college but quickly found out it was not for me. I love children, and I want to be a teacher, so I decided to go to Texas State because its College of Education is the best.

Career Goals

I want to be an effective teacher to each and every one of my future students.

Favorite Professor

Mary Ann Anderson is not only one of my favorite professors but one of my favorite people on the face of this earth! She is very encouraging and pushes students to do their best at everything they do. I was warned before taking her class that it would be a lot of hard work, but it was truly worth every minute. She prepared me so well for the future, and I have learned so much from her.

Best Studying Advice

Stay organized, write down assignments and have a to-do list. Once a task is done, you can cross it out and be done with it. Typing your notes after class is also a good idea. It not only makes them nice and neat, it also reinforces the lecture.

My Organizations

Chi Beta Delta Service Sorority

Why I am Involved at Texas State

When I transferred to Texas State, I knew no one. But by simply picking up a flier on the Quad and attending an interest meeting for my sorority, I fell in love! Not only do I have 30 to 40 very close friends, we get a chance to give back to the community through service. It has been a truly wonderful experience to make lifelong friends and affect this community for a lifetime.

What I Tell Future Texas State Students

I make better grades here than I did at the junior college I went to. Texas State has a better atmosphere, and academics are taken more seriously here. That made me work harder, and my schoolwork and attitude totally turned around when I got to Texas State. But while academics are taken seriously, it’s still a lot of fun to be here, and the people are very friendly.
