Art's Thoughts on Texas State
Why Texas State
I chose Texas State because of the location, the opportunities, the growing identity of the campus and the people.
I would like to be a surgeon because surgery is such a dynamic and exciting field, and performing surgeries is such a unique, demanding and fulfilling skill. Being able to perform surgeries would be a dream come true. I am most interested in orthopedic surgery, and I would like to attend one of the medical schools in Texas.
Professor Jeff McVey is one of my favorite professors because he gives more help outside of class than most professors. I also like Dr. Powell and Dr. Horne, my research supervisors. I am finishing a project on ablative rocket coatings with Dr. Powell and did a project detecting the presence of carbonic anhydrates in the gills of a freshwater crayfish with Dr. Horne. Research is fun because in most cases you are finding novel things. The subject matter from the research also comes up from time to time in various classes.
Best Studying Advice
Each class requires a different type of study. Figure out how you need to study, then actually study. Do not put it off. Also, make goals for each day and meet them so you can keep up with your work.
Why I am Involved at Texas State
Being active helps you with leadership, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
Favorite TV Show
I like Scrubs because it is funny, even though I don’t think the writers of the show view surgeons very highly.
Best Campus Hangout
I like to go to George’s
on Salsa Nights for the music, but if this “Be a Bobcat” survey can get me a dancing partner, I would not mind that either.
