Adam’s Thoughts on Texas State
Why Texas State
I chose Texas State because of its home-away-from-home atmosphere. There are so many friendly people here that it makes it very easy to get comfortable and stay comfortable while you’re getting a great education.
Why Geography
The undergraduate program in
geography at Texas State offers the opportunity to work with world-class faculty, and the diversity of courses contributes to the development of a holistic geographical perspective. I chose to major in
urban and regional planning in the Geography Department because of the top quality professors and staff. The enthusiasm of the professors and the knowledge they bring to the classroom have pushed me to work much harder. The professors and staff have helped me further my career as a student and a professional so much that I owe much of my success to them.
How Texas State Will Help Me Reach My Goals
The urban and regional planning program at Texas State teaches students to consider the many factors that take part in planning for urban growth. As a professional, I hope to use this knowledge to help communities grow in the right direction while creating sustainable developments for our future.
Best Studying Advice
Show up to class, pay attention and take notes. Doing so takes a lot of stress off of actual “studying.” You don’t have to spend hours cramming at the last minute if you have listened to what is going on and written down more than what is on the PowerPoint slides.
My Clubs and Organizations
Gamma Theta Upsilon Geographical Honors Society, co-president
Student Planning Organization, co-president
Pi Sigma Alpha Why I am Involved at Texas State
Being in a student organization is very beneficial to your career socially and professionally. It allows students to work with other students and faculty outside of the classroom environment. Another great thing about educational student organizations is that they also give you the opportunity to meet with professionals in your field. I have met so many great people and made several of my closest friends from these organizations.
Where I Go to Relax
If I need to relax, Sewell Park is the place I go. Whether I want to float the San Marcos River, throw the Frisbee, or just hang out with my friends, the river has everything I need to clear my head and get rid of stress.
What I Tell Future Texas State Students
I tell everyone I know who is interested in coming here that the first time I came to visit Texas State I never wanted to leave. The moment I saw the river and the campus, I knew this was the place for me. I filled out my transfer application as soon as I got home. There is so much to do and so many things to be involved in at Texas State that I never have trouble finding something to do.
