GRADUATE TEACHING ASSISTANTSHIPS

The Texas State University Department of Bands has Graduate Teaching Assistantship positions available for the 2012-2013 academic year for individuals desiring a Master of Music degree in Instrumental Conducting. Students in this program are offered opportunities for personal and professional growth in concert and athletic-affiliated ensembles while working alongside both the Director and Associate Director of Bands.

Position: The Graduate Teaching Assistantship in the Department of Bands provides opportunities in the following areas: Assisting with the Bobcat Marching Band, including writing drill and arranging music for pregame and halftime performances

  • Assisting with the Bobcat Basketball Band
  • Serving as conductor or co-conductor of the Concert Band
  • Guest conduct the Wind Symphony and Symphonic Winds in select performances
  • Assisting with academic courses, departmental special events and camps

Graduate Assistants are expected to audition and participate in the Wind Symphony, assist with the daily operations of the band program, and maintain an exemplary grade point average.

Qualifications: A Bachelor of Music degree, preferably in music education. Acceptance into the Graduate College and School of Music. Graduate-level performance skills on principal instrument. Public school teaching experience is desired. Conducting skills, ability and experience that enable the applicant to conduct university ensembles.

Stipend: Approximately $5000 per academic year. Health insurance can be arranged, and additional scholarship assistance is possible for exceptional performers.
