Wind Symphony

Wind Ensemble 2010

The Texas State Wind Symphony, conducted by Dr. Caroline Beatty, is comprised of the most outstanding wind and percussion majors in the School of Music and other gifted non-music majors who are selected by audition. The ensemble is dedicated to the performance of the finest wind band repertoire whether contemporary or traditional. The ensemble frequently travels and has performed for such prestigious music associations as the Texas Music Educators Association (2007, 1994, 1988, 1983, and 1978), the College Band Directors National Association (2008 & 1990), the College Music Society (2006), and the Music Educators National Conference (1992). The 2010-2011 academic year featured performances for both the Texas Music Educators Association Clinic and Convention in San Antonio as well as the National Conference of the College Band Directors National Association on the campus of the University of Washington in Seattle.

In recent years, the ensemble has collaborated with composers David Maslanka, Steven Bryant, John Mackey, Jonathan Newman, Scott McAllister, Rob Deemer, Donald Grantham, Russell Riepe, and Frank Ticheli among others.

The Wind Symphony rehearses on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 to 4:50 pm in the fall semester. In the spring, the schedule is Mondays 4:00 to 5:20 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursday from 2:30-4:20 p.m. Each student earns one hour of credit for his or her participation.
