Dr. Caroline Beatty, Director of Bands

Caroline Beatty serves as Director of Bands at Texas State University-San Marcos. While overseeing all aspects of the band department in the School of Music, her teaching responsibilities include conducting the Wind Symphony and Concert Band and teaching conducting. Dr. Beatty also enjoys an eclectic performance and teaching schedule outside of the university. She has been engaged as a conductor with the Austin Symphony, the Victoria Bach Festival, for recording projects of composers John Mackey and Stephen Barber, and with various regional and all-state high school bands. Her diverse teaching engagements have included serving as a conducting workshop clinician, providing a workshop lecture on music in American history for secondary school history teachers, and serving as a rehearsal clinician for high school and middle school bands across the state.
Prior to her current position, Dr. Beatty held the positions of Associate Director of Bands at Texas State and Northwestern State University. Her public school teaching experience includes thirteen years as a high school band director. While in that position, ensembles under her direction garnered frequent accolades for their performances, including consistent superior ratings and top awards at various festivals in the state and around the country as well as selection as a Texas Music Educators Association 5A Honor Band finalist.
Dr. Beatty holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Conducting from the University of Michigan and holds both a Master of Music degree in Instrumental Conducting and a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from The University of Texas at Austin. She is a member of College Band Directors National Association, Texas Music Educators Association, and Texas Bandmasters Association and is listed multiple times through student nominations in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.
Dr. Kyle R. Glaser, Associate Director of Bands
Kyle Glaser serves as the Associate Director of Bands at Texas State University-San Marcos. His responsibilities include conducting the Symphonic Winds, directing the Bobcat Marching Band, and teaching various methods classes. He holds a Doctor of Music degree in Conducting from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, a Master of Music degree in Conducting from Rutgers University, and a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the Pennsylvania State University. He has studied saxophone performance with Daniel Yoder and Otis Murphy.
Prior to his appointment at Texas State, Glaser served as the Director of Bands at the East Stroudsburg Area South High School in northeastern Pennsylvania. Under his direction, bands at East Stroudsburg received numerous Superior ratings at PMEA and PBA Concert Band Adjudications, and were chosen in 2002 and 2005 to perform at the Annual PMEA In-Service State Conference. He has also served as the interim director of the East Stroudsburg University/Community Concert Band, and was the co-director of the COTA Cats, a regional high school honors jazz ensemble that was founded by jazz legend Phil Woods.
Glaser maintains an active schedule as a clinician, guest conductor, and adjudicator, and has also served as a contributing author to the GIA Teaching Music Through Performance in Band series. His professional memberships include the College Band Directors National Association, the National Band Association, the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, the National Association for Music Education, and the Texas Music Educators Association.
