Scholarships and Performance Grants

PERFORMANCE GRANTS – WIND BAND SCHOLARSHIPS

OPEN TO ALL STUDENTS – REGARDLESS OF MAJOR!!!

1.      Band Area Performance Grants are available on a limited basis and are awarded to prospective freshmen, continuing and transfer students on the basis of performance ability, musical promise, financial need and service to the Department of Bands within the School of Music. Grants are awarded following an on-campus audition for the Director of Bands, who makes all final decisions. Awards vary in size depending on the need of a particular instrument in our ensembles and the student’s musical ability.

2.      In most cases, new students will audition in the spring for scholarship consideration for the following academic year. Students must meet the following criteria in order to retain their award for the subsequent semester:

A.    Students must participate in Wind Ensemble or Symphonic Winds during the fall and spring semesters. Performance majors are not required to participate in the Bobcat Marching Band. Some performance grants may be given with a marching band requirement.

B.     Students must reapply for a Band Area Performance Grant during the spring semester of each academic year to retain their award for the following year.

3.      All band area performance grant recipients must be enrolled as a student at Texas State University-San Marcos.

4.      All performance grant recipients should demonstrate musical improvement and make positive contributions to Department of Bands ensemble activities and performances.

5.      Students who lose a music performance grant due to musical deficiencies may reapply for reinstatement at the conclusion of the semester in which those deficiencies are corrected. This is contingent on approval from the corresponding ensemble director and/or the Director of Bands, and the availability of funds.

6.      Band Area Performance Grants are not awarded for summer sessions.  Awards are normally dispersed to the recipient’s student account in two equal installments; one in the fall (on or about October 1) and one in the spring (on or about March 1).
