Joining the TXST Athletic Bands

BOBCAT MARCHING BAND

Texas State University has experienced tremendous growth over the past several years, and it is important for new students to find their place within the university community. As a member of the Bobcat Marching Band, you will be surrounded by students with similar interests who will soon become lifelong friends. The band truly possesses a family atmosphere, a support system on which one can rely throughout their college career. You DO NOT need to be a music major to join any of the bands at Texas State, and everyone with an interest in continuing to perform is encouraged to participate. The Bobcat Marching Band now offers SCHOLARSHIPS for all members!

Do you have specific questions about the band program?
Most of the answers can be found on our "Frequently Asked Questions" page.

Brass and Woodwinds

Brass and woodwind players with high school band experience are admitted without preliminary auditions. HOWEVER, we occasionally experience more interest than we can support, and therefore have auditions for spots in those specific sections. If auditions are needed, they will take place during the first few days of our preseason camp. If you have further questions, please contact Dr. Kyle Glaser, Associate Director of Bands at krg60@txstate.edu

Percussion

Percussionists (battery and front ensemble) are placed by audition. There are optional summer drumline camps to help students prepare for the auditions, and the percussion section holds its formal auditions during the Bobcat Marching Band preseason camp. Please email our percussion coordinator, Prof. Bobby Lopez, at rl20@txstate.edu and he will get you all of the information that you need. More information can also be found on the marching percussion page.

Color Guard

Membership in the Color Guard is determined by audition. Auditions are typically held on the first Saturday in May on our campus. Please check back to this website for updated information later in the spring semester. If you have further questions, please email our color guard coordinator, Kim Booher at txstateguard@gmail.com

Twirlers

The Bobcat Marching Band has positions for up to two qualified feature twirlers. Auditions are typically held on a Saturday in mid-April on our campus. Contact Dr. Kyle Glaser, Associate Director of Bands, at krg60@txstate.edu for information.
