Advisor: Dr. Neill Hadder,
neill@txstate.edu Office: ELA 246 (Check with the Anthropology main office for walk-in advising hours.)
Note for Freshmen: You should have an advising appointment with me before choosing a minor, taking science courses, or choosing how to fulfill the “Social & Behavioral Sciences” requirement, because your choice of minor can affect these requirements.
The Anthropology Department offers its undergraduate majors an extremely wide range of choices. As undergraduate advisor, my role is to help guide you through your degree program so that it prepares you for whatever kind of career you want and provides the knowledge and skills that support your interests. Here are some of the topics we can discuss:
- What do anthropology types do besides become professors?
- How to choose a minor that best supports the anthropology major to make you competitive on the job market
- Designing a personalized sequence of anthropology courses that adds up to the best education for you
- Making sure you know what courses taken here or elsewhere count toward your degree
- Finding the right graduate anthropology program for you and providing you with a letter of recommendation
- Discussion of all aspects of anthropology to put things in perspective
- Discussion of any concerns or problems you’re having with the program or school in general
At least while wearing my advisor hat, my job function is to be a faculty contact who is concerned not with your performance in my class, but your welfare at Texas State. I can answer specific questions through e-mail and tend to prefer e-mail for setting up appointments to have more in-depth discussions. I look forward to working with you.
Sincerely,
Dr. Neill Hadder
