Mission Statement and Outcomes
Mission Statement
The Department of Anthropology's mission for our baccalaureate degree programs is to provide the highest quality anthropology education to our majors through student engagement in the classroom, providing hands-on experience through our field school programs, and giving students experience applying anthropology to real-world work settings in the department’s internship program.
Outcome Number 1
100% of anthropology majors will meet or exceed expectations as they gain hands-on proficiency in one of the three subdisciplines of Anthropology: Cultural Anthropology, Archaeology, or Physical Anthropology, through participation in a field school, or study abroad program in their time at Texas State University-San Marcos.
Outcome Number 2
100% of anthropology majors will meet or exceed expectations as they demonstrate, through embedded course exams in their capstone course Anthropology 4310, their command of the basic concepts and theories in the major subfields of anthropology.
Outcome Number 3
100% of senior anthropology majors will improve their technical writing skills.
Outcome Number 4
100% of anthropology majors will be able to successfully locate and incorporate web-based sources into anthropology papers.
Outcome Number 5
Anthropology majors participating in the internship program will demonstrate proficiency in applying anthropology concepts to practice in a work setting. We expect 75% of all participating students will meet or exceed the expectations for this outcome.
