Responsibilities
The Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) at Texas State University-San Marcos invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor in Physical Education, Exercise and Sports Science. The Department of HPER serves undergraduate and graduate students seeking degrees in Exercise and Sport Science, Athletic Training, Health Education and Recreation. This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position with a nine-month academic year appointment, beginning Fall 2008. The successful candidate will: 1) be responsible for delivering quality instruction in undergraduate and graduate courses in adapted physical education and exercise and sport science, 2) pursue a focused area of research that culminates in nationally refereed publications, professional presentations, and submission of grant proposals, and be involved in scholarly projects with faculty; 3) hold active membership in relevant professional associations/organizations; and 4) serve on committees and participate in official activities at the department, college and university levels. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Qualifications
Required:
- Earned Doctorate in Physical Education or related field prior to appointment date;
- Demonstrable evidence of research and scholarship (Associate) or potential for research and scholarship (Assistant) beyond the dissertation.
Preferred:
- University or public school teaching experience in exercise and sport science, specifically adapted physical education and/or pedagogy;
- Demonstrated leadership (Associate) and involvement (Assistant) in program, university and professional service activities and organizations; and
- Ability to integrate a diversity/multicultural perspective into teaching methods.
