SMCISD High School Fellowship Summer Program



  • Nine high school student  FAMA fellowships will be available for 9th – 12th grade SMCISD students to participate as a High School FAMA Fellow in the 2016 Aerospace Engineering FAMA summer camps.
  • High School FAMA Fellows will work as peer mentors to summer camp participants and will assist in the delivery of camp curriculum.
  • Selected fellows will participate in a training session and a six day summer camp. Students will be assigned a grade level and will receive a $194.00 stipend at the end of their assigned camp.
    • Grade 3- two camps: July 5 - 8
    • Grade 4- two camps: July 10 - 15
    • Grade 5- two camps: July 17 - 22
    • Grades 6- two camps: July 24 - 29
    • Grades 7- two camps: July 31 -  August 5
    • Grades 8- two camps: August 7 - 11


Benefits to High School FAMA Fellows:

  • Learn about the engineering process and design while having fun.
  • Work alongside SMCISD teachers, and Texas State students and faculty.
  • Career awareness in science, engineering and mathematics.


All sessions will take place at the Centro Cultural Hispano.  Teachers, Texas State pre-service teachers and FAMA fellows will arrive at least 30 minutes before student daily arrival and depart 30 minutes after the student program ends each day.

           Camp Students:  Mon- Sat.,  |  8:00 am  –   3:00 pm


  • Grade 3- one camp:  July 5-9
  • Grade 4- one camp:  July 11 - 16
  • Grade 5- one camp:  July 11 - 16
  • Grades 6- two camps:  July 18 - 23
  • Grades 7- two camps:  July 25 - 30
  • Grades 8- two camps:  August 1 - 6

An experienced team of STEM Curriculum & Instruction faculty from Texas State University will oversee the learning & research program. FAMA Fellows will receive training with the curriculum and materials prior to their assigned camp.

Camp Themes

Camp themes include materials engineering, aerodynamics, robotics, and rocketry among others.

Student Participants & Classroom Support:

Participating students will be rising 3rd grade- 8th grade San Marcos CISD students.  It is planned to have 1 In-Service Teacher, 1 Pre-Service Teacher, and 1 high school student fellow, for each classroom of 25 students.  Students may be ESL and/or Spanish bilingual students. 

Other Details:

FAMA Fellows will have to bring their own lunch. There are also two nearby restaurants. Parking is free.
